The Winter Garden at Brookfield Place, NYC
We are thrilled that WNYC's New Sounds Live Series will present Ben Neill's MANITOGA for brass quintet and electronics, first commissioned and presented at Manitoga in 2014. The work once again features conceptual artist Carol Szymanski's sculpted brass horns formed in the letters of the alphabet (pictured above). Also on the program is the world premiere of STEAK abc, a new work by Neill based on a minimalist poem by Aram Saroyan composed for all 26 of Szymanski's "phonemophones."
The program series is free of charge. An installation of Szymanski's instruments/sculptures runs from Oct 6 to Oct. 13.
MANITOGA was funded in part by a 2014 New York State Council on the Arts Individual Artist grant.
