APRIL

23 – Saturday, 9am - 2pm. Landscape Workday
Roll up your sleeves and meet other arborists, horticulturists, garden designers and landscape enthusiasts. Volunteers of all skill levels are welcomed. To register for this event, email ephillips@visitmanitoga.org or call 845-424-3812.

MAY

13 – Friday, MANITOGA: Design • Art • Nature tours begin.
Guided tours run through November 14. Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays between at 11am and 2pm, plus extended and special tours on select afternoons. Tours are 90 minutes and include Russel Wright’s modernist Home, Studio and Woodland Garden and the new Design Gallery. $30 per person;
Space is limited, advance reservations required. Children (including infants) must be aged 5 and up.

13 – Friday, Season open date for The Russel & Mary Wright Design Gallery at Manitoga, featuring over 200 objects from the Wrights’ ground-breaking designs for the American home, opens May 2021 with lead support from the Henry Luce Foundation. The Gallery will be included on all public tours through November 8 and highlighted on 2021 Collectors Tours. General admission starts at $30.

15 – Sunday, 10am - 12pm, In the Landscape: Lens on the Forest – Wildflowers & Ferns, $30
Led by naturalist and mycologist Taro Ietaka, this two hour guided moderate hike offers an intimate experience of the richness of the Hudson Valley flora at Manitoga. Space is limited, reservations required.

15 Sunday, 2pm - 4pm, Extended Tour: Tea in Mary’s Meadow, $50
Yuku mizu: Flowing through the Seasons: 立夏 Rikka (Beginning of Summer)
Enjoy a summer afternoon tour of Manitoga, culminating in Mary’s Meadow. Designers Yoshihiro Sergel & Diana Mangaser greet guests for an intimate experience in the landscape. They will use the Tea House as a frame to observe each micro-season at Manitoga while engaging in conversation over tea. Space is limited, reservations required. Children (including infants) must be at least 12 years old to attend.

Join Mindful Outdoor Nature Guide Jane Dobson for the Japanese practice of Forest Bathing. Unlike a typical walk in the woods, Forest Bathing is slower and more deliberate, allowing our bodies and minds to reset in the natural environment we evolved from. Nature exposure lowers blood pressure and heart rate, reduces stress, and boosts our immune system and mood. Reconnect with nature, oneself and others. Space is limited, reservations required. Children (including infants) must be at least 12 years old to attend.

Take a 1-1/2 hr. / 1.5 mile moderate hike of Manitoga's woodland trails, featuring four osio ("beautiful view" in native Algonquin) created by Russel Wright to frame the Hudson River.

Enjoy early morning bird songs with composer, musician and philosopher-naturalist David Rothenberg on a sensory experience along Manitoga’s woodland footpaths designed by Russel Wright. Experience includes mandatory moderate hike.

Composer Ben Neill presents the world premiere Trove - an immersive, outdoor sonic performance/installation based on Fibonacci series sequences created specifically for the Manitoga environment. The richly textured music ranges from meditative orchestral sonorities to gentle electronic pulses that reference plant life and nature and will offer audiences a dialogue between the Fibonacci patterns and the natural world that they represent within the magnificent atmosphere of Manitoga’s Quarry Pool and landscape.

2 Sunday, 11am & 1pm, 2022 Special Performance, Song of the Quarry, $35 / $40 / $125
Song of the Quarry is inspired by both the bucolic beauty of Manitoga and its central Quarry Pool. Shakuhachi players will be positioned around the Quarry Pool, each of the performers will play an excerpt from a traditional shakuhachi piece called Takiochi, or Waterfall. James Nyoraku Shlefer will be accompanied by Thomas Ryuraku Hack, Adam Robinson, and Nora Noraku Suggs. Space is limited, reservations required. Children (including infants) must be at least 12 years old to attend.

10 – Saturday, Last Day of Private Tours. Limited Private Tours are available by advance appointment for a minimum of 2 and up to 8 participants $150 per person. Enjoy an intimate experience of the landscape and architecture with special access to the lower Quarry Pool area, including Dragon Rock’s Nose and/or the Beach Room.

YEAR ROUND

Self-Guided Hikes. Daily, during daylight hours. Manitoga offers two miles of trails designed by Russel Wright. His “garden of woodland paths” has links to the Appalachian Trail. Dogs are not permitted. Trail maps available at the Visitor/Guide House kiosk, 584 Route 9D public entrance. Suggested donation of $5 helps support trail maintenance.
