15 – Saturday, 10am, Celebrate Community: Design • Art • Nature, Free to residents of designated areas
Manitoga is delighted to celebrate neighboring communities with a free tour of the Woodland Garden, House, Studio and the Russel & Mary Wright Design Gallery for residents of Dutchess, Orange, Putnam, Ulster and Westchester Counties. Valid photo ID / proof of residence is required. Space is limited, advance reservations required.

23 – Thursday, 10am - 12pm, Extended Tour: Tea in Mary’s Meadow, $50
Ukigumo: Floating Clouds ( 浮雲 ): August 大暑 Taisho (Greater Heat)
Enjoy a late summer morning tour of Manitoga, culminating at the Tea House in Mary’s Meadow. Ukigumo gathers people at the Tea House in observation of each micro-season at Manitoga in the spirit of Japanese tea culture. Designers Yoshihiro Sergel & Diana Mangaser greet guests for an intimate experience in the landscape, while engaging in conversation over tea. Space is limited, reservations required.

Site educator and performer Connie Hall offers an intimate window into Russel Wright’s design mind through his own words and the voices of those who shaped his life. Set throughout Manitoga’s landscape and home, the piece guides audiences through several movements of Wright’s life and thinking, with preview performances followed by opportunities for audience feedback.

Site educator and performer Connie Hall offers an intimate window into Russel Wright’s design mind through his own words and the voices of those who shaped his life. 19 – Saturday, 3pm - 5pm, Annual Performance: Echo Quarry, Live at Manitoga, $40
Composer and Mutantrumpet inventor Ben Neill returns to Manitoga with countertenor Ryland Angel for an afternoon of music that transforms the Quarry Pool into a living sonic environment. A wireless network of speakers distributes sound throughout the landscape, allowing it to move, overlap, and resonate across the site. Created for Manitoga and inspired by its landscape, Echo Quarry is a reflective, ambient work drawing on antiphonal traditions and networked performance. Fragments of trumpet and voice unfold across the distributed speaker system, forming a continuously evolving field of sound that surrounds the audience. Bring a picnic and enjoy the sunset! 3 – Saturday, 10am-12pm, Manitoga: Drawn to Nature, $20
Join artist and educator Valerie Light for a special Drawing Out program at Manitoga / The Russel Wright Design Center. Presented in collaboration with the iconic Hudson Valley site, this program invites participants of all ages to observe and respond to the Landscape surrounding the modernist House & Studio and Quarry Pool.

10 – Saturday, 4 - 6pm, Sunset at Dragon Rock, $100
Explore the House, Studio and Woodland Garden in the enchanting hours of late afternoon. Then soak up the majestic sunset on the terraces of Dragon Rock with a glass of wine, charcuterie, and conversation among other design enthusiasts.

11 – Sunday, 10am-12pm, Landscape: Osios - Sculpted Views of the Hudson River Valley, FREE
Take a 1-1/2 hr. / 1.5 mile moderate hike of Manitoga's woodland trails, featuring four osio ("beautiful view" in native Algonquin) designed by Russel Wright to frame the Hudson River. Space is limited, reservations required.

7 – Saturday, 2:30-4:30pm, MANITOGA – In Focus: The Design Collection, $50
Enjoy a late afternoon tour of the House, Studio and Woodland Garden with special focus on the relationship between the Wright’s professional life-style and product designs and the architecture and landscape of their home at Manitoga. Tour includes an in-depth visit of the Russel & Mary Wright Design Gallery and an inside look at recent donations of rare early work from the collection of Gary & Laura Maurer.

5 – Saturday, 10am - 12:30pm, Welcome Winter! Forest Walk & Pine Tea, $75
Enjoy an extended, in-depth experience of the House, Studio, Woodland Garden and Russel Wright choreographed foot trails. Jane Dobson, Mindful Outdoor Nature Guide, will provide a Forest Bathing walk, complete with freshly foraged pine tea and light snacks.

YEAR ROUND

Self-Guided Hikes. Daily, during daylight hours. Manitoga offers two miles of trails designed by Russel Wright. His “garden of woodland paths” has links to the Appalachian Trail. Dogs are not permitted. Trail maps available at the Visitor/Guide House kiosk, 584 Route 9D public entrance. Suggested donation of $5 helps support trail maintenance.
