New Sounds Live 2017: Ben Neill's MANITOGA from Brookfield Place

We are thrilled that WNYC's New Sounds Live Series presented Ben Neill's MANITOGA for brass quintet and electronics, first commissioned and presented at Manitoga in 2014. The work features conceptual artist Carol Szymanski's sculpted brass horns formed in the letters of the alphabet (pictured)). Also on the program is the world premiere of STEAK abc, a new work by Neill based on a minimalist poem by Aram Saroyan composed for all 26 of Szymanski's "phonemophones."

An installation of Szymanski's instruments/sculptures also ran at Brookfield Place from Oct. 6 to Oct. 13, 2017.

MANITOGA was funded in part by a 2014 New York State Council on the Arts Individual Artist grant.
