Private Abbreviated Tour

Visit Manitoga, the House, Studio and Woodland Garden of pioneer industrial designer, Russel Wright (1904-1976). Tour Dragon Rock, Wright’s experimental home which he built onto the rock ledge of an abandoned quarry while masterfully orchestrating the surrounding landscape into a series of outdoor rooms of varying character and delight.

Private Tours offer an in-depth experience of Manitoga’s architecture and landscape and allow exclusive access with special accommodations for guests unable to traverse the Landscape portion of standard tours.

Visits can be arranged by appointment in advance and are subject to staff availability, Manitoga’s Public Program schedule, site work and/or inclement weather. Private Tours must be arranged OUTSIDE of Public Tour dates and times. Payment must be made in full at the time of reservation in order to book the experience. Guests who are unable to traverse the Landscape can contact Public Programs Manager, Sarah Pansy, to discuss options for a Private Tour of the House, Studio & Gallery only.

Tour options

ABBREVIATED MANITOGA: DESIGN • ART • NATURE TOUR - $100 per person

The Abbreviated Design • Art • Nature Tour lasts approximately 60 minutes, for a minimum of 2 and up to 8 participants. Enjoy an intimate experience of the landscape and architecture with exclusive access to to the site and special accommodations. Please note that this experience EXCLUDES the moderate hike in the Landscape, however there is a brief outdoor walk in the immediate Landscape by the House and Studio and the interiors include several stairs with uneven surfaces, only one of which has a handrail. Visitors must be at least 10 years of age and able to negotiate uneven ground.

All Private Tours include The Russel & Mary Wright Design Gallery at Manitoga, featuring over 200 objects from the Wrights’ ground-breaking designs for the American home, with lead support from the Henry Luce Foundation.

PLEASE NOTE

  • Advance reservations are required for access to the House, Studio and Inner Quarry Landscape. For the safety of our visitors and the historic site, a limited number of reservations are available for Public Tours.

  • Children (including infants) must be at least 10 years old to attend a tour. Families with children under 10 are encouraged to experience Manitoga’s Public Trails, the picnic area in Mary’s Meadow and are welcome on most of the In the Landscape / Guided Hike experiences.  

  • Manitoga does not allow pets, emotional support animals, comfort animals, or therapy dogs on site. Only ADA Title III service animals are permitted. Please review the ADA’s service animal regulations for clarification.

  • After check-in, Manitoga staff will lead the guests up to the House via the Private Driveway. Staff is not permitted to drive or ride with guests, personal vehicles are required.
